 Microcontrollers- (Intel, Philips, PIC, Atmel AVR and ATmel 8051 types)

Analogue electronics- (op amps, transistors, etc)

PLCs- I have been asked to build machine control systems in the past using PLCs. I have used Omron, Mitsubishi and also Unitronics although any brand is fine with me. I can source Unitronic PLC through Service and Control Ltd because they have good technical support. 

Displays-

Timers, counters and relays- 

VSDs, HMI, Motion Control systems

Flux Vector Drives, Stepping motors, DC Speed Control
